This book is dedicated, "To all those who resist the feed." What exactly is the feed? What does it mean to resist the feed? Is there anything similar today, and in what ways might you (or people you know) resist the feed? What are the advantages or disadvantages of having a feed?
The feed is a computer chip implanted in the human brain to transmit advertisements, temporary knowledge, and media entertainment -all in one. The feed is like having everyone's grouped opinions constantly coming into your mind, influencing how you think and how you dress and talk and live. It, in a way, shapes you how you are 'meant' to be -at least by the government and company standards. Similar things to the feed would basically be the same things the feed was originally based off of; such as, the internet, text/instant messaging, comercials, informercials, and advertisement.
The ways we can, supposedly, 'resist the feed', to me, is just by thinking for yourself. -Plain and simple, basically.
But, at times it isn't as simple. These things (i.e. the media) are apart of our everyday lifestyle, and are constantly talking in our ears and flashing before our eyes what's "in" and what's "out", what the latest "trend" is, the "new and improved" this and that (which basically does the exact same function, just with a different name and color), what product will "enhance" this and get rid of that, and just a whole mess of things. It's all basically just buy, buy, buy. -And that's only what people are selling. Trends have their own little mess of things involved. Like, someone famous does something, or wears this, or whatever, and people like it, and-Bam!-it's a new trend. All of sudden there are 5 million other people who are wearing/doing the same thing. But, as all things, trends never stick. In fact, they are now changing so frequently, that there isn't any time for them to really be "cool", because something else has already been invented to top that, and advertisers expect people to run and get that as well.
For those to 'resist the feed', they kind of have to decide what it is they think for themselves, and not because of what the media is vomitting out for us, or what some of your ("in") peers are urging you to try/wear/buy/do/think. Resisting the feed is resisting the urge to shop, the urge to be "cool", and showing clear, independent thought that others, if not just yourself, can see. It's thinking the things you do because of your experiences, morals, and own opinions. Not, the whole, "why are you wearing that? That is so last month." attitude that makes me, and probably a few others, want to puke (-or hurt someone, if they hear something like that one more time).
As for the advantages and disadvantages of having the feed, I suppose it could be seen as an advantage to know anything you want to know just by being able to look it up (or, having the feed look it up for you). That way, anyone and everyone can know all they need to know, right? Wrong. The main disadvantage, I can see, is that because they rely on the feed for eveything, they quite literally know almost nothing. Nothing is their's to claim. Not their thoughts, not their "knowledge", not even their memories. Because this thing literally "feeds" them the knowledge, so they aren't even intelligent enough to know the basic fundamentals of their own language (i.e. grammer, punctuation, literacy, etc.), and they are almost incapable of forming their own opinions and sticking to them. -If the feed says that this is "new" and "cool", everyone with a feed already has it. And then the next day, the same thing is "out of style" and "boring", but try this new object that was produced with zero creativity and does absolutely nothing!

--Doesn't that sound like a BLAST, as well as a good use of your money?!?
...Uhm, if you said 'yes', then you have no life. -Seriously.
To me, it'd suck if I couldn't think for myself. If I couldn't read without being read to, or write, or anything. I mean, what do we have without thought? Useless consumer items that really do nothing but satisfy your urge to splurge for about 5 minutes, and in the mean time you just wasted your money buying something that you know you will seldomly (if ever) use? Newsflash- that's not living. That's shopping. And that's sad.
